There is nothing better than looking your best and doing it on a budget…

I was walking through the mall on a mission and there it was, all it’s overflowing tables of goodness. Forever 21 is the best place to find fun hair accessories even if you have only $2 to spend,  there is something for you.  So I got a couple of things to play with and give some examples of fun.   If you want to spice up your bridesmaid dress or your party outfit Forever has it.  So many goodies to choose from you won’t have the same as the next girl.  Brides don’t exclude yourselves, I also think anyone of these can be used in your hair.  Plus I saw a pretty large white headband with a white flower on it.  A  pop of color  in your hair to match your flowers would be awesome.  So get your butt to Forever 21 and accessorize yourself up.  With these prices you can go back again and again.

Check out another blog spot The Broke-Ass Bride she did a blog post on feathery hair goodness that are in a higher price range but so cute  http://tinyurl.com/kmzam9 .  They are from Little Von Loo , extravagant hair clips and combs.  Yummy!

A leap in to the big city we go,  with our Chicago representative Jessica Taylor.  I gave her the name Miss Jessica Chicago because I think it better suits her.  She is full of ideas and wonder for my Bliss Book.  What a wonderful person she is to me.

Jessica has been around for years, she is my sister’s friends.   So basically I have known her all of her little life.  It’s weird now to have her giving me so many ideas and for her to be such a leader.  I went to Chicago this year to America’s Beauty Show to make our debut and that is where my sister informed me Jessica wanted to work for me.  Oh…work for me.  UUUMMMMM, well.  We went home, I continued to work and then there was the request again.  She wants to work for me.  It’s hard to know where to fit someone in when you just start,  but I needed her.  She is an essential tool to my team and a building block.  I thank her for her persistence and her knowledge.  The future is bright and to her I am thankful for walking the pavement.

Born and raised in Michigan, I moved to Chicago over 2 years ago for grad school.  When not doing homework or working, I enjoy “stay-cationing” in the city with my wonderful fiance’, savoring the art & music scene and creating my own handmade goods.  I wanted to work with Julie and The Bliss Book because I love all things entrepreneurial and the beauty industry.  I also saw a great deal of opportunity here for The Bliss Book that only personal interaction with a representative in the city could provide.

Preparing your hair for an Up do.

blowdryer

The request of your stylist that makes you cringe…Please come to you appointment with dirty hair and Please do not wash your hair.

Why, you ask?  Clean hair does not hold as well as second day hair or as stylist we love third and fourth day hair.  It often is to slippery and soft to work with.  Sometimes freshly washed & dried hair will have moisture left in it and that will allow the hair to frizz.  So what is the best way you ask?   To prepare your hair prior to you’re wedding day hairstyle to give you the best results.

The day before your wedding is usually full of things to do and usually it involves a rehearsal dinner that you should look remarkable for.  Your festivities are beginning,  so your beauty regimen should to.  Make a stop at your beauty salon and have yourself a fabulous blow dry.  Your day before hair is just as important as your day of hair.  What goes in your hair, meaning the product, is the foundation to your wedding day style. Your stylist will achieve a volume filled blow dry without the fuzz that should look great the next day.  It will be the perfect canvas to begin the magic.

Here are some Don’ts:

*Do not pull your hair back after your  fabulous blow dry.

*Do not wear something that will need to be pulled over your head.

*Do not wash your hair the morning of your Up do.

*Do not come to an up do apt with your hair wet!!!

Here are some Do’s:

*When you shower the morning of your up do try and keep your hair in a shower cap, the bathroom fan on  and the door open.  (moisture is unfriendly to the hair)

*Always consult your stylist on how she would prefer your hair the day of.

*Do give yourself a blow dry the night before if you must with volume filled products. (If you can’t get to the salon)

What is your up do question?

I have been dedicated to the art of hairdressing for 16 years. My desire is to find everyone’s individual beauty and bring it to its full potential. When I’m creating, everything I do is thoughtful and with purpose. Inspiration is everywhere; for every color I use and every curl I place there is a reason and an inspiration behind it.

Over the years, I have built my talent through education, mentorship, and learning from others, and from that I continue to grow, learn each day, and keep my passion alive. I have been truly blessed with a gift that I am very lucky to have and am even happier to share. My goal is to make a woman feel wonderful about herself and create something just for her; as a result, I feel I am in the right business of making people happy and beautiful.

I never imagined myself in the cosmetic industry. It was a gift that I was unaware of. It just fell into my lap, and for that I am very grateful. My sister Julie inspired me to delve into the world of beauty; she taught me the basics of makeup application and has always kept me inspired with her thirst for fashion and hair. I’ve always been interested in music and the arts, but working for MAC and Nordstrom really broadened my fashion horizons. MAC especially opened me to a world of free spirits, color, and self expression. I believe makeup can transform a person and can empower any woman to feel confident.
As Hans Hofmann once said, “It is not the form that dictates the color, but the color that brings out the form.” I’ve found my niche in the industry and am truly inspired when I can help anyone realize how beautiful they are just by enhancing what they already have.

For my entire life I have savored the beauty of my surroundings. One of the greatest feelings of joy is being able to capture the beauty that I see and share it with others.

I believe that beauty is not only the physical things we see but also the emotions we feel. True beauty, the best kind to experience, comes from within and radiates outward. I love being a part of the most important moments of people’s lives and feel honored to capture these moments for them forever. Whether it is the groom’s first awestruck look at his bride, the glow of an expectant mother, the sweet innocent smile of a child, or just a momentous time in a life, memories should be captured in a way that bring you back to that moment every time.

July 4, 2009

Off they went to Cancun to celebrate their new marriage.   Jolie and Sean were married this weekend on the 4th of July surrounded by family and friends at the Christian Fellowship in Holland, Ohio.  They will be starting their new lives together in Fairborn, Ohio and we wish them much love and happiness.

Jolie is also my cousin and gave me the privilege of doing her hair for her wedding day.  She is a simple and classic girl.  She had given me plenty of ideas for her wedding day and wanted me to work with her natural curl.  Low, loose and simple is what she wanted.  She was a happy girl and that’s what we like to see.  She made a stunning bride do you all agree?

Congratulations!

Supporting what we love.

Our goal as a company is to support local companies, small businesses and people with amazing dreams.  One of the things I found and that I would like to share with everyone is a pair of earrings from a company called Recycled Planet Store.  I stumbled across them in one of our local stores in Ann Arbor, MI called 16 Hands.  I was so drawn to the jewelry because it was made from the MTA maps aka subway maps from New York City.  I love NYC and I remember so many times scanning those maps trying to find my way, I had to have them. When I looked into the company who made the earrings it made them even more special.

The Recycled Planet Store is a New York based company.   They work daily with several artisans from poor communities in Brazil, to create exclusive pieces of wearable art from recyclable material.  Yay for Recycled Planet for creating jobs, new opportunities, for recycling and redirecting waste reduction with creativity.  Go visit their website to see all the other creative and unique hand made pieces.       http://www.recycledplanetstore.com/home.php

16 Hands represents 600 artists throughout the United States and Canada, several European artists and fair trade organizations.  They have something for everyone and they truly celebrate the artist.  They exhibit a wide range of original, expressed art.  This is one of my favorite stops while in downtown A2.

What’s your favorite thing you support or love??

I wore these earings in my picture.
