Bliss Book-take one

So I was going through old pictures looking for an image and here I found our very first practice shoot for The Bliss Book. Left to never be seen these pics, hair, make-up lighting, we felt were all so very wrong. You have to understand, where we (Imagine Three) started from and how far we have come and what we have learned. We started from not knowing anything and the purpose of this was to learn. That we did.

As I go back, I love these pictures. They tell the story of us, learning…but I love them. I actually like her hair & make-up as I look back now. A lot of what we did was scrapped. It’s sad because pictures to print are so different and can be so, can I say disastrous.

I still find inspiration in my mistakes and I have learned from what I have done.  Practice & learning makes you stronger and better. Try it!

Stunning!  Wander yourself over to Haute Bride and accessories yourself like a fashionista. I love this piece because it can be the focus for your hair.  Which means if you want to wear your hair simple you push your style up with the accessory.  Or just go all out and be fabulous with both.

the softer side of smokey

Tuesday, January 26th, 2010

Who doesn’t love the smokey eye? I can’t tell you how many women have asked me to give them a smokey eye or teach them how to not look like a raccoon when they try it at home. =) I love the sultry yet soft side of this hot look. So many celebrities in Hollywood rock the sophisticated smokey eye and I wanted to recreate that red carpet look on the model that anyone would feel comfortable wearing. I found my inspiration while watching American Idol one evening. Kara DioGuardi had the “perfect” softer smokey eye.

After trying for so long with darker shades of grey and black combinations, I tried adding brown to the mix. Bingo! I started by smudging a deep brown liner all across the lid and then added brown and grey shadows. Blend, blend, blend! (brushes are key, look for a post soon) I chose an Iridescent Powder/Loose from MAC called Silver Dusk (I’m obsessed with it) to blend and for a highlight that contrasts and balances the darker shadows.

This effect is stronger than natural yet softer than dramatic. Don’t be afraid brides, it is stunning in photos and even more so in person. Anyone can pull it off. I’m not going to lie, I wear variations of this almost on a daily basis. I love how versatile I can be when choosing accessories and outfits. It’s my favorite eye look.

*Hot*Hot*Hot*

So my clients often ask what curling iron they should get to give them great curls that last.  A lot of times you find yourself buying any old curling iron, then it either gets to hot burns your hair or doesn’t get hot enough and your curls do not last.  Yikes!  We do not want burnt hair and let me tell you I have done this myself, sick.  I am going to recommend a curling iron that should last you a long time, work fabulously and have zero burnt hair.  Hot Tools Ceramic & Tourmaline Iron comes in 4 different sizes.

You can find Hot Tools by going to their website and locating a store on their where to buy finder. Or the other place I have found that sells Hot Tools is Ulta.

Now for the different sizes of irons and quick tutorial on what you will get.  My favorite across the board is the 1 inch. It can give great smaller curls and then if you want larger ones you just use larger sections. FYI: Always make sure your have some form of products in your hair before you curl, as in protectants. Heat can do major damage to your hair!

1-1/2 in. barrel: Waves & Body

1-1/4 in. barrel: Larger loose curl

1 in. barrel: Curly

3/4 in. barrel: Very Curly (aka little tight curls)

~Look of Inspiration~

wedding-guide-cover-31

This week I did a post about our cover photo shoot for Travelhost wedding guide.  I said I would revisit this and talk about what inspired the look for her hair.  Oh wait,  you still have to stay tuned…we have saved the best make-up shot for later when the make-up artist explains her inspirational look.  Coming soon…

I wanted to embellish the hair with large flowers and honestly it’s really hard to find fresh that I felt were perfect and would fit the look. There were several other options but this was I felt stunning and clean. Her look was ivory and white.

This look was inspired from an up-do that Katie Perry (Below) had worn with very strong bangs.  I wanted to originally have a full strong bang but I wasn’t going to cut hers. So we compromised and did somewhat of a fake bang.  How could this look not inspire you. Can you visually see it, how the bang can work with the new look created.  I wanted her “bun” to be not so perfect but swept, large and dramatic. I guess strong would be the word, like her flowers.

When I am working on finding a look I always look for inspiration, this time I found it in Katy Perry. I didn’t copy it for the exact look, just inspiration. My model then turned from rocker Katy Perry to icon beauty Audrey Hepburn.
*Note on bangs right now: These strong,  large sections are big and hot…be brave, do it!

~ban.do love~

Friday, January 22nd, 2010

It’s time again for ban.do love!  The fav of the month is no.92 crystal encrusted scalloped trim with ribbon ties.  I love ribbon ties they are so romatic, especially attached to crystals.  This is a perect addition to a down style and an up style,  so the ribbon can show.

Feel the ban.do love and check out the Bliss do we have paired with the accesory.

~Eyes that pop~

Eyes say so much about a person. A wink or a flutter can grab so much attention. When you’re choosing your inspiration for any event, the perfect lashes will complete your look. You can still be yourself, but with that extra pop of glamour. I love false lashes for so many different occasions.
~
When choosing lashes, you can select from a number of locations. I like variety and have found many great options at my local beauty supply store (i.e. Sally Beauty Supply) , Sephora and some cosmetic counters (i.e. MAC). I prefer strip lashes for their convenience. If you are going for a more natural look, choose lashes that are similar in length and thickness to your own lashes. When you want that extra pop go with something a little more whispy, full and fluffy. Some of my favorite choices are:
Ardell Invisiband Eye Lashes in Black Demi Wispies from Sally Beauty.
#4 Lash from Mac Cosmetics
#156 Genevieve from Makeup Forever at Sephora
~
Don’t be nervous. A great way to have a test run is have your makeup artist use them for your trial. Try to schedule it on a night you have something special to attend, or make plans to go out. This allows you to get a feel for them if it’s your first time. Every time I wear lashes, within 15 minutes I barely remember they’re on. But no one else will forget, they’ll be watching you bat those sparkling eyes all night long.
