~Hot Bun Love~

It was the weekend of the Whimsical Occasions Wedding Event and make-up, hair, make-up, hair.  We had a great time and we wanted to share with you some our great looks for the up coming season.

Braids on Braids~Rolled Ellegance~Carnation Love~Hot Bun

Braids on Braids~Rolled Elegance~Carnation Love~Hot Bun

Braids on Braids~I was super excited about this looks because I took her braids that already existed and re-braided everything back and high.  Rolled Elegance~Is a shorter version of a look I did for a wedding where she wanted to drop her rolled up curls later for her reception. Two different looks but and still very beautiful. Carnation Love~Loose flyaway curls and carnations. I usually hate carnations but Martha Stewart Weddings had a magnificent cake on her cover that made me want to create this carnation love.  Hot Bun~That should say it all!  It’s stunning large and looks magnificent with a veil over it.  You do need a lot of hair for this one but that is what “extra hair” is for, no worries.

We love our models and they looked fabulous!  Check out our small picture on the bottom of our goofy lip pose.  It’s from our clip with Shutter Booth, the photo booth company that comes to your event.  It was so much fun, I think it was the highlight of our day.  Come visit us at our next event with Whimsical Occasions at The Inn at St John’s Plymouth, MI.

Thank you Imagine Three Photography for all the great pics!

Will you be attending a wedding event this year?

The Make-up Artist Answers

Hannah Butler, Make-up Artist was taking questions a little over a week ago in the blog post Beautiful Faces. She will be answering the questions in a two part series. Here are you two of your answers girls!

Question:

Rachel W. says:

I have a problem with my eyeshadow not staying on and it’s shiny most of the time. What do you suggest for that?

Response:

Hannah Butler,
I think every woman has experienced this same problem. You go into the bathroom to check your makeup and your eye shadow has disappeared or it’s shiny and has gathered in your crease. I remember the day someone showed me the light and my life changed forever (no joke). =) My second day at MAC, my counter manager handed me a cream eye shadow called Painterly Paint Pot. I had no clue what it was. She said something like, “Put this under your eyeshadow tomorrow. You’ll thank me later.” I was so excited when I saw how easily it was to get my eyeshadow to show it’s true pigment instead of it being that wussy shear wash of color that turned invisible by the end of the day. When I got home the next night, my eyeshadow looked as fresh as it had that morning. I was amazed and have been addicted since. Rachel, all you need is an eye shadow primer. I call it “double-sided sticky tape” for your eyes.

FAVES
-MAC Painterly Paint Pot
-Urban Decay Eye Shadow Primer Potion
-Smashbox Photo Finish Lid Primer

ENJOY!

Question:

Jenn B. says:

I have been told not to use makeup under/around my eyes as that deepens the appearance of my wrinkles. My issue is that I have dark spots under my eyes. The skin under my eyes is thin and sensitive so makeup seems to “rest” on top of my skin. What would you recommend I use to lighten/cover those dark areas?
Also, later in the day, I often have black mascara smudges under my eyebrows from my eyelashes. I do not apply the mascara on the tops of my lashes. Are there any solutions for this?
Thank you!

Response:

Hannah Butler,
So happy you asked, I’ve had many clients with your same concerns. Fear not, you can use makeup around your eyes! You would love an under eye concealer with a moisturizing formula (helps hydrate and plump skin) and/or light reflective qualities (brightens dark circles).

FAVES:
-Dior Diorskin Nude Skin Perfecting Hydrating Concealer
-Yves Saint Laurent Touche Éclat Radiant Touch
-Estee Lauder Ideal Light Brush-on Illuminator

Behind every good concealer is a fabulous eye cream. Jenn, you can also make those dark spots under your eyes fade away with an under eye brightening eye cream. This will also address any concerns with wrinkles and dehydration! For day, apply a small amount (about a rice grain or smaller so it won’t cause your eye makeup to smudge) under eye. For night I like to use my eye cream on my eyelids too, hoping it does a double miracle. =)

FAVES:
-Shiseido White Lucent Brightening Eye Treatment
-Murad Lighten and Brighten Eye Treatment
-Philosophy Eye Hope

Oh, and for your mascara issue, no worries! Use an eye shadow primer (see question above) to help keep your eyelids from getting oily which makes your mascara smudge. Ta-da!

Does anyone else have these issues & did the answers help?

Setting Your Own Trends

Written by Julie Hill

Every one of us has dreamed of what we want to look like on our wedding day.  We see pictures throughout our lifetime of what a bride should look like, and through the years they appear different with the changing times.  Trends set the basis to a bride’s looks, but deep down, it should portray a signature look in how you are as a person, your style, and most importantly, what you allow it to portray as yourself.

The style of your hair can complete your whole look.  This year’s trends have leaned towards wearing the hair down, in long, curly, and loose waves. This is a beautiful look that can be simple but pumped up to elaborate, depending on your style and the event feel.  Simply stated hair can be loose and combed through, with flowing soft curls, softly pulled back, or a braid for a charming yet simplistic look. Attaining an elaborate hairstyle can be achieved by adding more hair, stronger curls, adding height, and pulling it back with detail.

Hair can either be our enemy or our best friend; depending on the weather, your length of hair, how well it holds a curl, etc. We all know your hair does not want to cooperate with your chosen style at a given time, so this is why trends may not always work.  Take an alternate plan of action.  If you want to still have the trend appearance of wearing your hair down, but your hair will not cooperate, pull it softly back or to the side in a low ponytail.  The Chignon and the French Twist are two more popular options for those of you who cannot wear your hair down.  They are classic looks that can hold so many different possibilities and interpretations.

Just because trends are set, does not mean we need to follow them.  Be an individual, stand out, and do what your hair will allow.  What is the best look for you? What matches your event?  Will it work with the weather?  Will it hold up the whole night? Will it compliment your dress?  These are all questions that every bride should ask herself when trying to find the perfect hairstyle. Find the stylist that best fits you to help you answer these questions and portray your chosen style.

~Pieces of Silk~

Wednesday, February 17th, 2010

ThreadRare caught my eye on Etsy when I came to their opening page where handpicked item’s are featured.  Out jumped one of her hand sewn flowers.  I love the versatility of these flowers because they can be worn with your casual outfit for fun, your wedding day, prom for pizazz and the little flower would be perfect for little girls & flower girls.  I think the flowers also caught my eye because the workmanship is such great quality.  My favorite is BALLET.

Check out the Bliss inspired looks below for some options to go with ThreadRare’s featured hair adornments.

ThreadRare:

I have a degree in textiles and clothing design and formerly owned a business designing custom bridal and special occasion gowns. Now that I stay home with my toddler son, I’m channeling my creative energy into designing accessories.

I still have a deep love for luxury fabrics which is why I make many pieces out of silk. Vintage has always had an appeal for me as well, and I incorporate elements of the past into my pieces as much as possible.

Hair Confusion?

Tuesday, February 16th, 2010

My niece Miss Madison is a Valentine’s Day birthday girl.  She received the Discovery Girls Magazine as a gift from her mom and dad.  Great magazine, I even found something useful for myself as an adult.  I posted the article below on the best cut for your face shape.  This is a no nonsense way to help you find a new hairstyle for your shape.

So finding your face shape is sometimes not fun. I used to hem and haw over this so much when I was in school, I still can get stumped. I often test myself and look at pictures and try to find out peoples face shapes.

I can help you out with a couple of pointer on finding your face shape.

Oval-  Most of the time oval will be a longer face. Your face will have the same measurement in the forehead as the chin.

Round-  Round is round, circular. Your chin, forehead and cheeks are usually same dimensions.  (That’s me round)

Square-  Your face will have strength at your chin area, which means a square jaw line. Sometime you will also have strong cheekbones to match.

Heart-  Your chin will be more pointed and your jawline will be streamlined. You will have fuller cheeks that work up to your forehead and voila you have a heart.

Now, check out the article below for fun little hints on how you can change your hair.   Then there is a world full of fun for you.
