~Timeless Beauty~

Thursday, March 11th, 2010

I received these images this past month and it’s been a long time since the event, October 2008 to be exact. The pictures tell a story of a classic bride who’s look can stand the test of time. Erin’s derise for classic & vintage has created timeless. This also was the beginning of my broach phase. Erin used one of our broaches that we used in The Bliss Book and it was paired beautifuly with her veil.

Enjoy her beauty and be inspired by her look. I found my inspiration through Bliss and it’s many timeless, classic looks.

Sunrise - Feather Headband

Sunrise - Feather Headband

Headbands are hot! Be feathered lovely with TessaKim’s Sunrise-Feather Headband. The color’s are so creamy and soft, I believe the headband can look elegant but also be more laid back.  Feathers themselves are beautiful and so artistically crafted on their own,  but when put together by designer like TessaKim they blend beautifully like highlighted hair.

I have always been curious about cream-to-powder foundation. Would you recommend it over liquid foundation? Does it provide better coverage than mineral powder? I love the smoother appearance that liquid foundation gives in comparison to mineral powder, but I never feel like taking the time to apply liquid foundation nor do I feel like I ever achieve even coverage when I use it. I have heard that cream-to-powder foundation can be a little difficult to apply though, so I am wondering if there are any tips on application of it? Thank you!

Response:
Laurie C.,
I love foundation chats. Foundation is so personal because everyone’s skin is different. There’s oily, combination, dry, normal, mature, acne-prone etc. There are certain types of foundations that work better for some more than others. I’ll give you a rundown (with my faves at the end). Cream-to-powder foundations are convenient and best for combination skin. It doesn’t cling to dry skin like powder can and usually has a medium to full coverage that provides a natural matte finish. I like mineral powder for it’s gentle ingredients and coverage, but it’s not for everyone. If you have mature skin, I find it makes fine lines and wrinkles more obvious and it also makes dry skin more apparent. I prefer mineral powders (and powder foundation in general) for normal to combination/oily skin types because of the matte finish that helps control shine. For you thirsty skin girls (dry) or normal, go for a moisturizing foundation with a dewy finish. It’s so healthy looking! I love a radiant and glowing complexion! If you have a few more skin concerns if you skin is changing, go for a firming foundation that has anti-aging benefits that can firm skin and leave you looking lifted. For acne-prone skin (been there, still a battle), use a foundation that is oil-free. There’s a wide range in coverage and a variety of finishes. If you’re still oily throughout the T-zone, get a natural matte or matte finish. In the end, it’s all based on your preference. Rules were meant to be broken.

For an even coverage and flawless application, you need the proper tools. I can’t put my foundation on without a brush. The bristles blend the product so easily and your hands don’t have to get messy. And I am a huge protestor against sponges (except for some blending). They waste your product and carry bacteria. YUCK! In my last post about “Desert Island Brushes”, I featured the Sephora Professional Platinum Air Brush #55…my new best friend. It applies powder, cream to powder, liquid, blush, bronzer…it does it all! Go get yourself one! Then lightly buff your foundation of choice on in a circular motion. Start with a little bit of foundation and see how it blends. You’ll get the hang of it and never want to put it down. Plus, it’s super soft and never sheds because of it’s high grade Taklon nylon fibers.

What do you prefer Powder Foundation or Liquid Foundation?

~Your Inner Girl~

Wednesday, March 3rd, 2010

I have been eyeing Mikiye forever on Etsy.  I love her diversity in her creations and the pop of color she brings.  I am such a huge fan of the skeleton feather.  What a fun night, party spark.  It could be your Goth girl, Pinup girl or Halloween wedding look.  Pull out your inner dark girl and run.

Check out our Bliss inspired looks below to pair with Mikiye’s creations.

About Mikiye:

I guess I can say I’m lucky since it seems all the women in my family have been very creative. My Great Grandmother was very much into craft making and as long as I can remember my Grandmother was making something. When I was young I spent most of my spare time drawing, painting, or trying to make something with Playdo!

I was written up in W Magazine and featured in magazines like Essence, Teen People and Shape. My accessories also made appearances on the popular television shows: The O.C. and The Simple Life. Some of my celebrity clients include Rock Star Kimberly Cole, Kelly Osbourne, Paris Hilton, Lacey Chabert and Shaun Robinson to name a few.

~Perfectly Planned~

Monday, March 1st, 2010

I did a little one on one interview with one of my beloved friend, client and event planner Courtney McDonald of Petals Planning. Being in the same industry we often refer back and forth with brides and clients that may need our expertise. It helps to know someone personally and know what they are capable of providing for your clients.

Petals Planning is wonderfully priced and do able especially for your day of.  Being an on sight person and providing a service the day of an event I often see the craziness, things forgotten and the need for many extra hands.  So why not have the go to.  Answer all.  Make you not crazy on your day girls.

Check out what Courtney has to say.

“Most brides have been planning their wedding (at least in their head) for years before the actual engagement.  Weddings are among the best and most joyous days of a couples life.  All eyes are on the bride, and her fantastic wedding.  So why would any bride want to spend her wedding day making sure her florist, DJ or band, linens, chair covers, caterers, musicians, stylist, make up artist, photographer, bridesmaids, groomsmen, guest book, favors, menus, programs, and lighting, just to name are few, are on time and set up appropriately?  And then what about returning the rentals and cleaning up?  What happens to the card box, guest book, and gifts?

Answer:  They wouldn’t.

Solution:  Hire a “Day Of” Coordinator.

The reality is, it’s not in the budget.  What is a bride on a tight budget to do?

My recommendation…Hire Petals Planning Company.  Courtney & Kate are not only amazing people, but will make your day completely stress free.  ”Day Of” Coordination starts at $300 and includes:

-Review of your “Day Of” timeline

-Confirmation of your vendors the week before

-Handling the corsages and pinning boutonnieres

-Ensuring a timely start

-Lining up the bridal party

-Helping organize guests for the bride & grooms exit

-Transporting items from the church to the reception

-Set up of place cards, guest book, favors, candles, ceremony items at the reception

-Guiding and directing guests throughout the day

-Delivery of card box and gifts to appropriate friend or family member

** Clean up and return of rental items is extra**

Mention The Bliss Book when booking your “Day Of” Coordination and receive the above services for $225!!!!

Petals Planning company also offers full service wedding planning as custom packages, or any additional services can be added a la carte.  Please visit www.petalsplanningco.com for details.”
