My Girl

Friday, July 30th, 2010

My dearest Emily.  I touched on this story briefly in a previous post .  When preparing for my dear friend on her wedding day, I was so pleased that she chose us to capture it and make her more beautiful. I am just now seeing the finished product my sister passed along.  How beautiful she turned out.

Her hair was meant to be low and loose.  We planned a little together, as we are both stylists.  Allowing the side of her hair that is swept to one side to be over her open shoulder.  The flower was a suggestion of mine not knowing it was already chosen to also to be an accent in her bouquet.  One was perfect for her small frame.

Don’t forget you can always grow your own orchid.  Happy hair inspiration!

Hair adornment of the week

Monday, July 26th, 2010

Put a pretty bow on it!  This piece is special and one of a kind, with a little vintage flair.  I love how it’s simply placed in her loose waves.  Another suggested loose wave option from The Bliss Book, shown below, would go perfectly with the ”Celeste” Hair Clip.

1950s hair & makeup InsPired

Wednesday, July 21st, 2010

While planning for a 1950s themed wedding we came up with some inspiration to fuel the brain fire and to give vision to our bride.  My sister and I came up with our suggestions separately and we have a beautiful palate of choices.  There are many staple looks in the 1950s but there are still many choices to be incorporated into one look.

Hair Inspiration:

The look was soft loose waves, with a swoops & sometimes a victory roll.  There were so many versions and a lot is deciphered by the texture of the hair.  If it was up it was defiantly elegant as Audrey Hepburn wore it in her classic french twist.

Make-up Inspiration:

Women could get away with a more dramatic look, particularly for evening.

Eyeliner was liquid, making a sharp, highly defined contour. It was used primarily on the upper lid.

Pastels were the favored colors for day, especially for a younger woman.

Women could wear red by day and it was the most popular choice for evening.

Lips were colored lush and full.

Accessorize that dress!

Tuesday, July 13th, 2010

I just wanted to stay on Peppermint Pretty’s site to listen to the great music while I drooled over dresses.  I love playing the game of matching hairstyles, dress & accessory.  The center of inspiration for this post, is the dress.  You usually always begin first with your dress then the accessory & your hair most of the time will follow.  You can go full fledge vintage with this dress choice or throw in a bit of modern.

The hairstyles of choice range from swept back with softness, classic french with a twist, straight up victory roll with pin curls & down with an edge of vintage.  Adorn any one of these hairstyles with fun choice pics below of some of my favorite artist.   Click on the pic to visit their sweet adornments and Peppermint Pretty to find your dress!

Imagine Three creators of The Bliss Book have to decided to expand our portfolios and creativity into the editorial world. This shoot needed to encompass our surroundings and all things local.

From the location, to the dresses, to two of our models being from Ypsilanti, MI we are proud to represent. We are all growing businesses, striving and are strong women.

We had the great privilege to shoot at Beezy’s cafe in Ypsilanti, MI. Simple, honest food is their quote. Such good food it is! What a great place to visit and great surroundings to shoot in. Go visit, you will be addicted!

The dresses came from Leslie Austin a local dress designer. You may often see them as you drive down Michigan Avenue in the windows of her store Lezley Anne. They are all uniquely different and so much fun. Thank you Lezley for dressing our models!

Iconic beauty

Tuesday, July 6th, 2010

Bringing back some old school inspiration. Classic beauties can never loose their luster.  I love old movies, the dresses, the hair.  She’s just beautiful and think of how not airbrushed this picture is.  The look of her hair is clean and elegant, perfectly framing her face.  Leaving a little opening at the top for an accessory or flower.
