It’s time to freshen ourselves up as we jump into spring!  The flowers are blooming, the sun is attempting to make an appearance, and we are coming out of our hibernation.  Nothing makes you feel better about yourself than a fresh color,  covering up the old or brightening the drab.  So you ask,  What’s hot?  How do I choose?  What do I do with my existing color?

Always do your research by scanning this seasons hottest magazines for some color ideas.  You always have to remember that a lot of editorial pictures can include extensions which allow the color to pop more which is unrealistic in natural hair.  Bring several options with you to show to your stylist because all may not be suitable for your skin tone.  Your stylist may have some great ideas for you with new techniques or color palette choices from a recent color class or hair show.  Always trust your colorist in choosing the correct tones that will be perfectly matched with you.

Big changes can be made in steps, making it a great transformation over a span of several seasons.  So get to the blonde, blonde, blonde at the end of summer.  Be the ever changing blonde combining tones to include different dimensions, reaching it’s full potential by the end of the season.  The same can go for any color.   Red heads can change all hues from honey tones to copper tones and plan your deep winter red, red tones.  By working towards a goal you can have so much fun in the process, be ever changing and treat your hair in a gentle manner.

What’s hot? Brightening your browns with warm hues of honey to create an all over lighter golden hued brown. Take your left over winter blonde to a warm vanilla blonde to soften and tone your look for spring. Banding- brighten the front section around your face with a lighter shade of color blending it with highlights to the back or using a complimentary color.  Whatever you do, freshen yourself with a new pop of spring color and you will feel renewed!

Color change…When?

Wednesday, August 26th, 2009

Yes, I was bored and needed a change.  I fully intended to wait until the fall and go dark but I flipped through pages of my US magazine and there she was, Megan Fox.  HA, yes I know not Megan Fox but we can all have our dreams.  But here are the reference pictures we can all use.  I believe that I can go dark even though it is not fall yet.  That often I think is such a myth of going dark for the fall or winter and staying light for the summer.   Even if you wanted to go dark and still  feel the brightness for the summer, keep some of the lightness around your face.

~So the when do you make the decision to change your color before a big event.   Like for your wedding??  You should prepare well in advance before your event.  Ease up to your color intention, plan it with utmost purpose.  Your colorist will know best the steps to take.  If you do not have a stylist or colorist you should be on a search and plan just as you will for your color.  Finding your stylist will be another topic of discussion later.

~I had a bride recently ask me if she should color her hair for her wedding day.  She had never colored it before and she had beautiful natural highlights already.  I asked her if she would like to look more like herself on her wedding day or different.  The answer was more like herself.  You should think about this carefully,  because you will look back on these pictures forever and what will you want to remember?  Will you want to picture someone you know as you or someone you decided on for the moment.  So that is why I suggest carefully making these decisions with direct thought.  I suggest not making huge color changes right before a big event.  Maybe unless you are a movie star and even then they have proven that to be a mistake.
