I was at the Maker Faire Detroit this weekend and I saw these two girls with belts in their hair. I had to kinda stalk & take pictures then I just finally asked for one and of course my finger was in the way. So please excuse the fact that I am not the photographer of the group but the hairstylist and that they are taken with my phone.

If you are a owner of The Bliss Book you will read in the introduction: Inspiration is everywhere; it’s the curve of a face, a fold of a fabric, the flush of a cheekbone, a color.

The reason I stalked these girls and the belts in their hair is because they inspired me. The texture and the height of their ponies and the fact that it had a multitude of colors. Now I’m not saying I want a belt and rope pony but yes I do want a big giant full pony.

Use your imagination and envision. Are you drawn to the belts and can you see your inspirational style?

Maker Faire was so much fun and I believe it was the first time in Detroit. Check out below for the location and dates you can still get to Maker Faire this year.

oooohhhh la la Velvet Owl! What a magnificent creation and such a modern twist on the bubble veil. I love it, especially with the flower comb that creates such a beautiful contrast and a secondary option for later when the veil may come off. The Bubble veil is a favorite because to me is feels like and extension to your hair and adds such beautiful height. Be interchangeable and have two different looks for your ceremony to reception, this will give you the option.

About Mikiye:

I guess I can say I’m lucky since it seems all the women in my family have been very creative. My Great Grandmother was very much into craft making and as long as I can remember my Grandmother was making something. When I was young I spent most of my spare time drawing, painting, or trying to make something with Playdo!

I was written up in W Magazine and featured in magazines like Essence, Teen People and Shape. My accessories also made appearances on the popular television shows: The O.C. and The Simple Life. ThreadRare caught my eye on Etsy when I came to their opening page where handpicked item’s are featured. Out jumped one of her hand sewn flowers. I love the versatility of these flowers because they can be worn with your casual outfit for fun, your wedding day, prom for pizazz and the little flower would be perfect for little girls & flower girls. I think the flowers also caught my eye because the workmanship is such great quality. My favorite is BALLET.

I have a degree in textiles and clothing design and formerly owned a business designing custom bridal and special occasion gowns. Now that I stay home with my toddler son, I’m channeling my creative energy into designing accessories.

I still have a deep love for luxury fabrics which is why I make many pieces out of silk. Vintage has always had an appeal for me as well, and I incorporate elements of the past into my pieces as much as possible.
