My love for this wedding and my bride who gave me simple instructions for her is what made this so beautiful.  Sometimes that can be the hardest to accomplish.  She brought me pictures of Jenna Bush and her laid back, simply beautiful hair.  Again, I did not know my bride before our first consult.  Her picture was her instructions and part of her verbalization of what she wanted.  This was our path to the road of getting to know her, leading us to her perfect look.  Enjoy!

The Bliss Book & Education.

Pivot Point School Evanston, IL

Pivot Point School Evanston, IL

The Bliss Book believes in the creative mind & inspiration.  I have created a class called The anatomy of an up do.  Teaching the core principles of how to build a structurally sound up do and how to get to the point of execution using your references and communication.  We created The Bliss Book as a reference tool and a guide for women and stylists to create their perfect look.

We also believe on finding everyone’s individual beauty and accentuating it.  We are all beautiful in our own individual way and we hope that everyone will find their Bliss.

This was my trip to Pivot Point School in Evanston, IL a suburb of Chicago. The students were awesome and eager to learn. They helped me take pictures to document the process so they would have pictures to use as reference. I want to thank them so much for participating and I wish them the best of luck in their up do imagination & creation.

Color change…When?

Wednesday, August 26th, 2009

Yes, I was bored and needed a change.  I fully intended to wait until the fall and go dark but I flipped through pages of my US magazine and there she was, Megan Fox.  HA, yes I know not Megan Fox but we can all have our dreams.  But here are the reference pictures we can all use.  I believe that I can go dark even though it is not fall yet.  That often I think is such a myth of going dark for the fall or winter and staying light for the summer.   Even if you wanted to go dark and still  feel the brightness for the summer, keep some of the lightness around your face.

~So the when do you make the decision to change your color before a big event.   Like for your wedding??  You should prepare well in advance before your event.  Ease up to your color intention, plan it with utmost purpose.  Your colorist will know best the steps to take.  If you do not have a stylist or colorist you should be on a search and plan just as you will for your color.  Finding your stylist will be another topic of discussion later.

~I had a bride recently ask me if she should color her hair for her wedding day.  She had never colored it before and she had beautiful natural highlights already.  I asked her if she would like to look more like herself on her wedding day or different.  The answer was more like herself.  You should think about this carefully,  because you will look back on these pictures forever and what will you want to remember?  Will you want to picture someone you know as you or someone you decided on for the moment.  So that is why I suggest carefully making these decisions with direct thought.  I suggest not making huge color changes right before a big event.  Maybe unless you are a movie star and even then they have proven that to be a mistake.

Communicate with your stylist.

Your Tools

Your Tools

There are obviously a lot of steps you need to take in getting to your stylist first.  But I want to tell this little story about a bride I had.  This all has to do with how important it is to have communication with your stylist, what should be said, what you want, how to get it and how do you express it.

I pride myself in my skills in communicating with my clients.  Your visit with your stylist, no matter what you are seeing them for,  should always entail a consultation.  It may happen very quickly at times but should be a discussion about you hair, what you would like to achieve, who you are, problems with your hair, ect….

My story begins with a bride who was referred to me for her wedding that was at least 6 months out. We began by doing haircuts and preparing her hair length for her wedding day. I began to understand her hair texture and began to discuss some ideas of her hair on her wedding day.  She kind of had an idea and she told me that wanted it low, she wanted it to hold because she was going to swing dance and she showed me pictures of her dress and several picture ideas for her hair.   Never did I imagine I would need to do three up-do trials.  I couldn’t get it, this never happens to me and I could not figure out why. We started to talk more on the final up-do session about her job and how she was an engineer. Without going into great detail about how I found out more of these details, she needed her hair to be symmetrical because of who she is and the make-up of her personality.  I hadn’t dug deep enough to find out who she truly was.

So why do I tell this story, because communication is the utmost importance.  So here are some key points that should come out in your consultation even if your stylist does not bring it out.

*Tell he or she your story.

Career/Casual/Funky/Dressy

*Bring your tools to show them.

Veil/Hair pieces/Tiara/Flowers/Picture of dress

*If you have to bring pictures do it or several pictures with a couple of ideas that you personally like.

Magazines/Tear outs/The Bliss Book :-) /Pictures of other people you know

Once you have reached an understanding you should then trust your stylist consultation even and let the creative juices flow.

This is why a trial up-do is always  a must.
